PATRICK MIKHAIL IN MONTRÉAL PRESENTS THE VANISHING WOMAN, AN EXHIBITION OF NEW WORKS BY MONTRÉAL ARTIST NATASCHA NIEDERSTRASS
The body of work entitled, The Vanishing Woman/Escamotage d'une femme examines issues surrounding the concept of the visibility and disappearance of women in the context of 19th century magic shows, demonstrations, and performative feats. The objective here is to make visible the negative political connotations associated with the female body and to take a critical look at an object of the visual culture of that era by drawing a clear parallel with the way we look at women today.
