PATRICK MIKHAIL ANNOUNCES REPRESENTATION OF MICHAEL A. ROBINSON

PATRICK MIKHAIL is pleased to announce representation of Montreal multidisciplinary artist MICHAEL A. ROBINSON.  Mr. Robinson is a producer of sculptural installations, drawings, cast works, and image-based projects that examine the creative gesture, its conditions of emergence, and the position of the artist in the face of art world conventions.  Working with immediacy, his projects and installations valourize questioning and opening over conclusions and affirmations, and are often reflexive, critical, and materially speculative.  Employing formalist and conceptual approaches, he deliberately plays on the mixing and juxtaposing of creative strategies as they relate to modernism and contemporary art.  He often works with objects harvested from his everyday life—recontextualizing them as art materials to draw attention to the sometimes hidden meanings of objects, to the role they play in our lives, and to what we think is and is not art.

Michael A. Robinson lives and works in Montreal. He teaches sculpture and drawing in the Department of Visual and Media Arts at Université du Québec à Montréal, and was a full-time Artist-in-Residence, MFA Sculpture, at Concordia University. He holds a BFA from Concordia University in Montreal, and an MFA from Université de Paris 1 - Panthéon-Sorbonne.  Recent exhibitions include: Spring Break Art Show NYC 2020; The Object as Evidence, SL Gallery, New York 2019; Objects in an Embassy, Montreal 2019; The Gift of Oblivion, Galerie Diagonale, Montreal 2018; Où allons-nous?, Musée national des Beaux-Arts du Québec 2018; Either/And at ArtHelix, Brooklyn 2016; Other Worlds, Washington Project for the Arts, Washington D.C. 2016; and Dyphthong, Shirley Fiterman Art Center, NYC 2015.  He has participated in prestigious residencies at NARS (New York Art Residency and Studio Foundation); RU Residency Brooklyn; City of Rennes, France; l’Hôpital Éphémère, Paris, France.  His works are in numerous public and private collections, including the Museé d'art contemporain de Montréal (MAC), the Musée nationale des beaux-arts du Québec (MNBAQ), and the Canada Council Art Bank.

Mr. Robinson next appears at Patrick Mikhail Gallery in the group exhibition ABSTRKSHN in January 2021.  He also has exhibitions at: Undercurrent in Brooklyn, March 2021; BLECH – Raum für Kunst Halle, Halle, Germany, April 2021; Institut für Alles Mögliche, Residency, Berlin, Germany; and Super bien!
