PATRICK MIKHAIL MONTRÉAL is pleased to present THE TRIUMPH OF THE THERAPEUTIC (Or Happy Days Are Here Again. Yes Again. With Special Thanks and Appreciation for the Inspiration of Philip Rieff 1922 – 2006.). Our summer survey exhibition bringing together the works of seven artists working in a number of mediums including painting, photography, New Media, animation, video, sculpture, and drawing.
The Triumph of the Therapeutic reveals another layer in the ongoing exploration of the ideas of American sociologist Philip Reiff, as first presented in his 1965 book The Triumph of the Therapeutic: The Uses of Faith After Freud. As we continue our shift from faith to therapy, from authority to self-investigation, from connection to Interconnection, the artists presented provide a glimpse of their current state of mind, in the process contemporizing Reiff’s illuminative ideas.
