PATRICK MIKHAIL GALLERY in Montréal is pleased to present MEMORY LOOP, an exhibition of new works featuring two emerging Montréal artists, ÉLOÏSE DUMAS and ALEXEY LAZAREV, coming together to ignite a dialogue that revolves around memory and its impact on our relationship with ourselves and with our surroundings. The exhibition marks the latest installment in the ESSENTIAL PROJECTS SERIES, and is part of the gallery’s commitment to providing young, emerging artists with a platform to ignite and advance their professional practices.
ÉLOÏSE DUMAS works in a realist technique and her paintings are based on the photographs of her favorite trilogy of nature, animals and humans. She prefers a muted color palette and uses predominantly earthy tones. Being surrounded by nature and animal life since her childhood, Éloïse draws her inspiration from the Quebec countryside. In her practice, she seeks to bring perfect harmony to all things human and natural. Éloïse was born and raised in a lovely surrounding countryside in Beauce, a small town in Quebec. She practiced art until obtaining a BFA in painting and drawing, from Concordia University in Montreal, Quebec. She is a visual artist who loves using photographs in her painting and drawing practice as a means of incorporating representations of the real world into her work.
ALEXEY LAZAREV’s large collage-based paintings stand at the crossroads of abstraction and figuration. They are the product of an elaborate process during which bits of images get shuffled, remixed, discarded and reassembled. He uses a contrasted colour palette that compliments the dynamism of the composition. Alexey is a Montreal-based visual artist working with painting, drawing and print media. Alexey’s art is a reflection on the themes of personal identity, migration and space—it is an invitation to the worlds of the imaginary that stem from the mundane and imply an alternative look at the everyday life experiences. Alexey was born in Saint-Petersburg (Russia) and studied Illustration at the University of Hertfordshire (UK), followed by a BFA in Painting & Drawing at Concordia University (Canada).
