PATRICK MIKHAIL GALLERY in Montréal is pleased to present ABERRATION, a new body of work by Toronto conceptual artist OLIVER PAUK. Following a successful presentation at VOLTA 12 in Basel, Switzerland in June 2016, during Art Basel week, Pauk debuts his first solo exhibition as part of PMG’s fall exhibition programme launch.
Oliver Pauk’s artistic practice engages directly with the interstice between the physical and the digital. His 2D and 3D works blur this territory in a way that playfully explores visual trickery, dimensionality, and the function of the contemporary art object. In ABERRATION, Pauk continues his exploration of 3D printing, hydrographic and optical coatings, and the rendering of the digital into the tangible—creating remarkable objects that ignite conversations surrounding production, technology, and contemporary art making. What results is a fascinating investigation of the relationship between three-dimensional reality on two-dimensional surfaces, and the relationship between abstraction and representation.
Oliver Pauk’s work has been featured in exhibitions and projects in numerous national and international venues including: VOLTA 12 BASEL; Mercer Union Toronto; Art Gallery of Ontario; Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF); Toronto’s Gardiner Museum; Art Gallery of Mississauga; York University; 2012 Scotiabank Contact Photography Festival; Drake Hotel in Toronto; Berlin’s Strychnin Gallery; Gallery 44; and Sunday Drive Warkworth. He is the Founder and Director, AKIN Collective in Toronto. Reviews and critical discourses of his work have appeared in the Toronto Star, Globe and Mail, Canadian Art online, TOM* Magazine, TVO’s The Agenda, CBC Radio, Art F City, Ion Magazine. He is the recipient of the 2014 Award of Excellence in Exhibitions from the Ontario Museum Association.
