PMG ANNOUNCES REPRESENTATION OF COLIN MUIR DORWARD
April 2, 2013
We are pleased to announce representation of Ottawa-based painter COLIN MUIR DORWARD. Dorward was a finalist in the 2012 RBC Canadian Painting Competition. He has a BFA from Emily Carr University of Art + Design, and an MFA from the University of Ottawa.
Colin Muir Dorward "depicts the quotidien and the mundane with a meticulous eye, offering an intoxicating conflation of reality and the imaginary; fields of vision are warped, bodies and objects mutate, and symbols abound. Concerned with spatial construction, visual perception and the multiplicity of perspectives, the artist fills his works with incredible detail to dazzling effect. Among his peers Colin Muir Dorward is considered a painter's painter. His venturesome work is a bold and commanding testament to the continued relevance of figuration in painting."

VOLTA NY TOP HIGHLIGHTS: AMY SCHISSEL AND PATRICK MIKHAIL GALLERY CHOSEN AS ONE OF TOP 5 HIGHLIGHTS AT VOLTA NEW YORK
March 15, 2013
We are proud to announce that the influential New York blog GALLERY INTELL has selected AMY SCHISSEL and PATRICK MIKHAIL GALLERY's presentation at VOLTA NY as one of the top 5 highlights of the solo-project art fair. The project CYBERFIELDS, was conceived as a site-specific installation for VOLTA NY that presents whirling schemata, concentrated notational systems, and web-like linear structures that negotiate hybrid moments where paint and modes of digital representation collide. These systems, frenetically layered to visualize the largely invisible information flows that cut across cities, hover over continents, and seemingly negate the need of geographical location for human interaction and communication. Her works are an imaginative reinvention of our contemporary landscape and have become a means to re-insert a sense of civic legibility where the World Wide Web calls us to be everywhere and nowhere at once
Gallery Intell provides a platform for art enthusiasts to learn more about all aspects of the art world including important galleries to visit, significant shows to see and top artists to know. The website's video interviews offer the viewer a chance to learn about the art historical importance of selected works and the inspiration behind their creation.
Congratulations to Amy Schissel.

JESSICA AUER APPEARS IN VIEWS FROM MONTREAL ISLAND ABC : MTL AT THE CANADIAN CENTRE FOR ARCHITECTURE
January 31, 2013
PMG ARTIST FEATURED IN GROUP EXHIBITION AT MONTREAL'S FAMED CANADIAN CENTRE FOR ARCHITECTURE
JANUARY 31 TO MARCH 31, 2013
An Atlas. A Bricolage. A Compendium of different elements and strategies for understanding the city. ABC : MTL is an urban abecedary and open-source initiative that maps contemporary Montréal in a diversity of ways and media. Over 90 contributions including photography, music videos, sculptures and installations, drawings, models, workshops, lectures and performances have been selected from an ongoing call for submissions. These now form a lexicon of the CCA’s home city and a platform for its creative talent.
ABC : MTL is the third in a series of exhibitions at the CCA investigating the development of Montréal. Montréal Métropole, 1880-1930 (1998) examined the city’s emergence as a behemoth of trade and industry at the turn of the century. Montréal Thinks Big (2004) explored its infrastructural transformation during the 1960s to meet the demands of a new era. ABC : MTL addresses the city as it is today: not a historical artifact or a series of monumental structures, but a daily experience of almost limitless variety. Material from the CCA Collection will also be included.

KRISTOPHER KARKLIN APPEARS IN THE 2013 ALBERTA BIENNIAL OF CONTEMPORARY ART
January 30, 2013
PMG ARTIST SELECTED TO APPEAR IN "THE NEWS FROM HERE: THE 2013 ALBERTA BIENNIAL OF CONTEMPORARY ART" AT THE ART GALLERY OF ALBERTA
JANUARY 26 TO MAY 5, 2013
ART GALLERY OF ALBERTA
Featuring 36 artists from nine Alberta communities, The News From Here: The 2013 Alberta Biennial of Contemporary Art explores the theme of post-regionalism in Alberta art. According to guest-curator Nancy Tousley, Alberta artists, working in the second decade of the 21st century, are forming their identities around the places they choose to live, work and travel—the idea of a single, dominant centre is no longer applicable as it is distant and divorced from their daily lives. They are now, more than ever, aware of the larger art world in which they participate. In this exhibition, the physical, societal and cultural geography of Alberta is felt in the works of art, both in the foreground and background of imagery, subject matter, content and critical issues. Rather than a defensive regionalism, one finds in their work an acceptance and consideration of place.
Since its inception in 1996, the Alberta Biennial of Contemporary Art has presented new and exciting works by over 125 different Alberta contemporary artists. The Alberta Biennial helps to promote and bring national attention to the work of Alberta artists.

CRITICS PICK: THE BEST OF 2012...... JONATHAN HOBIN'S LITTLE LADY/ LITTLE MAN ONE OF TOP TEN EXHIBITIONS OF 2012
December 30, 2012
Congratulations to artist JONATHAN HOBIN. His March/April 2012 exhibition LITTLE LADY / LITTLE MAN at OTTAWA CITY HALL ART GALLERY has just been named one of the Top Ten Exhibitions of the year in the OTTAWA CITIZEN's yearly round-up of the best art events in the region. The list was compiled by the Ottawa Citizen's Arts Editor PETER SIMPSON who wrote:
"Hobin’s meticulous photographs of his grandparents, titled Little Lady, Little Man, made voyeurs of all who saw them. The centrepiece was a large, proud portrait of the couple in their Sunday best, remarkably lifelike when printed in UV ink on aluminum panels. Most challenging were the images of Hobin’s grandmother on her death bed. They were loving portraits from a photographer with a distinct eye."

CRITICS PICK: THE BEST OF 2012...... AMY SCHISSEL'S SYSTEMS FEVER ONE OF TOP TEN EXHIBITIONS OF 2012
December 30, 2012
Congratulations to artist AMY SCHISSEL. Her April 2012 exhibition SYSTEMS FEVER at PMG has just been named one of the Top Ten Exhibitions of the year in the OTTAWA CITIZEN's yearly round-up of the best art events in the region. The list was compiled by the Ottawa Citizen's Arts Editor PETER SIMPSON who wrote:
"Abstract art is like a force of nature, and the artist’s job is to control that force just enough to make it coherent. Amy Schissel paints images of cyberspace, of the internet, cast as a swirl of vibrant colours. Her show Systems Fever at Patrick Mikhail Gallery showed that the concept works better in large format than in small, but left little doubt as to why she was shortlisted for the RBC Canadian painting prize."

THOMAS KNEUBÜHLER FEATURED AT MONTREAL'S CANADIAN CENTRE FOR ARCHITECTURE
PMG ARTIST TO APPEAR IN LECTURE SERIES WITH FILMMAKER ERNEST WEBB
October 25, 2012
A conversation between artist Thomas Kneubühler and filmmaker Ernest Webb, who explore housing and human migration in a small town on the eastern shore of James Bay. The conversation will be moderated by Alessandra Ponte. Taking the hydroelectric installations in Northern Quebec as his cue, Kneubühler documents how the generation of power touches the land and by extension people’s lives, charting a wider topography of human relations. In Under Currents, he contrasts the flows of rivers and electricity with the movement of both Aboriginals and migrant workers.
Ernest Webb’s Down the Mighty River series portrays the Rupert River just before its destruction for hydroelectricity, shedding light on the cultural and environmental impacts of the project on areas including Webb’s hometown, Chisasibi. Their inquiry into the specific pressure that the search for new sources of energy places on relations between men and to their environment prefigures a wider debate on urban growth and the meaning of progress.
Learning From… Chisasibi is part of a sequence of lectures called Learning from… Boomtowns, part of the wider Learning From… series which takes its title from Learning From Las Vegas (1972), Robert Venturi, Denise Scott Brown and Steven Izenour’s influential publication. In this spirit, the series brings together experts to explore specific urban conditions and their relevance to the future development of cities.
